CCC to hold public examinations into the Shire of Halls Creek

The Corruption and Crime Commission (CCC) will hold public examinations into the Shire of Halls Creek this week as part of its ongoing investigation to determine whether any public officer employed by or elected to the Shire of Halls Creek may have engaged in serious misconduct in the performance of their functions of office or employment.

The examinations will also provide the ratepayers and residents of Halls Creek the opportunity to hear how people who are entrusted to manage the Shire, and its funds, have made their decisions and behaved in their business dealings.

To-date the CCC’s investigation has included a search of a number of premises in Halls Creek, including the Shire of Halls Creek headquarters at 7 Thomas Street in September 2017, as well as private examinations of a number of witnesses.

In deciding to hold public examinations, the CCC has carefully balanced the public interest of the ratepayers of the Shire of Halls Creek and the wider community, the potential for prejudice and the privacy of the individuals involved.

It has concluded that in this matter, the public interest will best be served by public examinations. The Commissioner will reserve the right to move from a public into a private examination at any time appropriate.

Journalists and members of the public will have access to the examinations via a live stream available on the CCC’s website at www.ccc.wa.gov.au.

Live streaming:
The public can view the examinations online by visiting the CCC website from 9:30 am on Thursday 26 April and Friday 27 April 2018 at www.ccc.wa.gov.au
