Aged Care and Disabled people are kept safe and well – Halls Creek Community Care Inc

When Covid-19 reached the Kimberley, Halls Creek Community Care Inc. put in place various strategies to ensure that the Aged Care and Disabled people were kept safe and well.

As we run three programs, (Community Home Support Program, National Disability Insurance Scheme and Home Care Package), we informed families and the community of the closure of the Centre Base support services, and all clients were to remain at home. We would take these support services to them instead.

Since mid-March, we have given each client a breakfast pack (incl. Weetbix, milk sachets, tea bag, butter and jam, bread sachets, sugar). While there, welfare checks are conducted, medication reminders etc. Domestic assistance is available for some (e.g. dirty laundry picked up and returned clean the following day); shopping been done on their behalf. Lunch meals has been delivered to them daily even on the weekends. Our staff continues to clean houses for some clients and provide personal cares to others in their homes also. PPE gear is worn at all times by staff.

Every week the client has received a care pack of Soap, Shampoo, toilet roll for their use, and notice of how to keep safe. Recently, the Flu Vax was given to the clients, thanks to Community Health and Yura Yungi staff.

A key stakeholder we give thanks to our Meals on Wheels provider, Poinciana, for supplying nutritious and healthy lunch meals, and taking up the extra task of doing meals on the weekend for our clients.

These are very difficult times ahead for all, and we ask that the family keep their loved ones safe and well at home, as we will do our utmost best to provide support services to them in their home.
